"A new and modern European arena will be built in place of our present stadium, the home of many successful Partizan generations," it said.
The club has also decided to grant free entrance to fans for all remaining home matches this season except those with city rivals Red Star and possible UEFA Cup ties. "The decision was made to bid farewell to the present stadium in the best way imaginable, to honour the fans and players who have celebrated many victories here," it said.
Some 7,000 fans turned took the offer and turned up in the 32,000-seater arena for Saturdays 2-0 league win against Banat Zrenjanin that lifted Partizan to the top of the first division with a maximum nine points. A section of Partizans die-hard fans has been boycotting home matches since last October, when a poor run led to the club making an early exit from Europe and then surrendering the domestic league and cup double to Red Star. |
