England lost 1-0 to Spain last night at Old Trafford which led to resounding boo's ringing in the ears of shamefaced England players.
England were looking to gain confidence from the fixture before they recontinue their European qualification, however all confidence left the team about the same time as Iniesta struck the ball into the net.
Neville sumarisedthe game by saying that Spain only had two shots on goal but were succesful with them whilst England had six, all spurned.
Fellow defender Rio Ferdinand, also captain for the latter stages of yesterday's game, echoed his team-mates sentiments.
He believed that for the first quarter of the game England were in the driving seat however lost the forward motion as the game went on.
McClaren, unlike the press, is not dissapointed with his team's performance.
Their were few bright points - namely the return of Kieron Dyer and Johnathan Woodgate and the form of Stephen Gerrard.
McClaren said that all his team needs to be a strong team is goals as their is no one to cross the ball in and bury it.
The only serious chance for England was produced by Michael Carrick in the opening minutes. Without Rooney the team seems to have little aggresion in front of goal.
McClaren admitted that certain players were not playing to their full potential.
The England manager rued the loss of six key men in his team.
Two of these players, Ashley and Joe Cole, have long term injuries while the other four, Rooney, Hargreaves, Lennon and Terry, will hopefully all be fit for the game in Tel Aviv.
McClaren was also dissapointed that he has lost his last international game a Old Trafford before all home games will be played at Wembley.
Neville also wrote off the boo-boys in the crowd by saying that their is a mentality amongst England fans to boo whenever they go to a game.
Ferdinand alluded to the first game to be played at the new 90,000 seater Wembley which may be between either Brazil or Argentina according to mummurs coming out of the FA.
Hopefully with the opening of a new chapter of football McClaren can rejuvinate the team to have a winning start at Wembley. |
