Finnan extends Liverpool stay

The Irish international has agreed personal terms and is set to put his name on the dotted line when they return from their tour of Asia.

Finnan joined Liverpool under former boss Gerard Houllier from Fulham and has since played 182 games and was part of the team in both the Champions Leauge and FA Cup victories.

Another defnder that is looking to join the Liverpool team is Manchester United's Gabriel Heinze. However Manchester United are not keen to see the Argentinian go to a potential rival. Benitez is keen to push the deal through whatever happens. It has recently emerged that Heinze has a £6million get out clause in his contract which it is believed Liverpool have triggered.
