Owen likely to miss first game of the season

Owen who has only played for the Magpies 4 times is looking doubtful to start the season how he means to go on. Allardyce claims that it is an unforeseen setback in his treatment.

This is good news for new-signing Alan Smith who is expected to go straight into the first team. Allardyce mentioned that their embarassment of riches in the striking position means that their is no need to rush Owen back into the game.
