Twenty players from across English football assembled today to highlight their good causes. It is estimated that football related charities will donate £122 million next season alone.
A new scheme by the club was in the limelight today. Dubbed 'Places for Players' 200 Premiership players have made themselves available in the month of September to do what they can for local charities as well as donating £2,000 per player.
Also it would be a waste to not see some footballers do what they do best. Through charity auctions 60 players will be able to line up in an All-time Legends XI alongside players such as Gullit, Merson, Ravenelli and Wilkins.
Chief Executive of the Premier Leauge Richard Scudamore was present at the launch and highlighted his aim of weaving football and charity together for a more positive view of the game. Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, James Purnell, was also eager for the clubs to cash inon their hero-like status in local communitys. |
