| Maloney wants Celtic stay Celtic striker Shaun Maloney has assured supporters he wants to stay at the club. The 23-year-olds contract negotiations have stalled recently and he will be free to sign a pre-contract agreement with another club in January. But the Scotland international insists the protracted talks with the Hoops hierarchy are merely to ensure the new contract suits everyone.
Maloney told the Sunday Mail: "Hopefully, a deal will be sorted out. We are still talking but it has been going on for a little while now. You want to play in big occasions like Wednesday (the Champions League victory over Benfica at Celtic Park) and, hopefully, there will be a few more. My preferred option is to stay - I have said that from day one seven months ago. But the deal has to be right and that is the main thing. I would have liked a deal to be done a lot quicker but both parties have to be happy and, until that happens, it will not be signed." |
