| Werder Bremen return to the top of the Bundesliga Werder Bremen beat VfL Wolfsburg 2-1 on Sunday thanks to an 86th minute free kick from Brazilian defender Naldo to claim the Bundesligas unofficial "winter championship".
Werder, the leagues top-scoring side with 47 goals, finished the first half of the season with 36 points, ahead on goal difference from Schalke 04, who beat Arminia Bielefeld 1-0 on Saturday.
Champions Bayern Munich, who crushed Mainz 4-0 away on Saturday, are third on 33 points, ahead of VfB Stuttgart who slipped to fourth on 32 points after their goalless draw at Energie Cottbus.
Denmarks Daniel Jensen put Werder ahead in the 17th minute with a spectacular bicycle kick, falling backwards to blast in a shot off a partially deflected Miroslav Klose cross. Wolfsburgs Isaac Boakye equalised four minutes before the break. |
