The likes of Pele and George Best failed in the 1970s and 80s, when the USA first tried to get interested in what they call soccer, but Beckham arrives at a time when Major League Soccer has at least started to gain a decent foothold over there. The MLS are banking (quite literally) on Goldenballs to bring in new punters and help the sport compete against the likes of baseball, American football and basketball.
Is Becks the man for the job? Will he be a success off the pitch as well as on it for Galaxy and the MLS? We want to know what you think about the arrival of Beckham in America and what impact he can have over there... |
Over the many years football in America has improved in interest, America eg, having the most registered youth players of any country in the world, however when those youth grow up they tend to go to the American sports?
Beckham will do no harm in regards to interest, to what extent remains to be seen.
