Hello to all,

This post is to announce the transfer of ownership of the site from Daz to myself. Daz has done many good things to the site and due to study obligations, has passed the site to me.

As I am new to both the forum system and moderating, I would like to ask all members to be patient with me during this learning curve.

My Background

My name is Joe, I am 31 years old, married, live in Glasgow and I’m a lifelong Celtic fan. In my previous life, before becoming a Webmaster, I worked for a textile manufacturing company and dreamt of the day when I would be my own boss. That dream began to materialise in 2003 when I decided to learn how to build and promote my own basic websites. My sites do o.k. but with them being related to personal finance it has become tedious to say the least. Hence, FootballTalk.org!

Plans For Football Talk

Step 1: To follow on from Daz’s excellent promotion of the site and try to attract more members and get them to start posting.

Step 2: To get more feedback from current members on their ideas. I don’t want to post how I will be promoting the site, as this information is rather delicate but I think that our members will play a key role in the success of footballtalk.org.

Step 3: Win stuff! I want to reward our members by running regular competitions. In order to participate, users will need to have posted at least 10 posts and hopefully this will encourage our ‘first team regulars’. Our first competition will be for the World Cup, so get posting if you want to be eligible to enter! Details of this will follow. We also want feedback on the type of competitions you would like to see in the future. After all, the competitions are for you. Remember: more members, bigger funds, better competitions!

Step 4: The site will have a policy of having no pop ups/unders or any other unethical online moneymaking methods. Advertising will be discreet and targeted.

Modifications Made

I have already made several modifications to the site, the details of which I won’t bore you with just now, suffice to say they should improve your enjoyment of the site.

One upgrade I will mention is the addition of a quick register box that I hope will make it easier and hassle-free for guests to register.


Modifications – In The Pipeline

These are some additional features that I may add and I would really appreciate your views on them.

1. Addition of the vBookie –for competitions.
2. Addition of an arcade
3. Addition of club team avatars – starting with Premiership, Championship and SPL clubs
4. Addition of custom smileys (if you have seen any you like on other sites and it’s possible, we’ll try and get them)

Moderators/Forum Leaders

I’d like to thank Stiles21 for agreeing to stay on and help with the site. I’m sure he’ll play a vital role in making our site the huge success we know it’ll be.

I will also take this opportunity to present my ‘partners in crime’ so to speak. Any problems about the site you can ask them.

Juan Kerr [Why would anyone wish to call himself or herself that? Well it must be true]

***Important***

We will also be looking for new moderators for specific forums.

Pre-requisites for these positions include [but not limited to]
1. A strong grasp of the English language
2. The ability to remain neutral in disputes
3. The ability to start new interesting topics for discussion
4. An IQ level greater than a slug (although we can come and go on this if you meet the first three)

If you are qualified [yes there are many who aren’t, I won’t name names Bearton!] and would like to apply to moderate any of these then drop me a private message.

There will be topics that I have forgotten to add to this novel that will be announced later. Also, if you are still awake and have a will to live after reading this huge post then kudos to you. I am just about to throw myself into that river.
