vCash: 500 | Is the champions league set up to predictable now! i believe the champions league set up has had its day,it was good in the early 90s to maybe late 90s, i feel the champions should just qualify, and the rest thrown into a new european competition! we all love the world cup,cos its every 4 years, having this set up in europe every year is only keeping the big clubs big and its slowly destroying or diluting the excitment of the game! especially in scotland as we do not get the massive amount of money from tv,though our teams will have a good season here and there! so elitism is bred and its becoming harder and harder for smaller clubs or smaller leagues to have a chance, especially with the seeding system etc ! any thoughts? |

vCash: 500 | largest competition goes to Europes largest teams. You can argue that the the likes of Thun get a pay day from the six games but the real payday is for Europes elite. I still despise the fact that countries get more than one entry into the 'champions' league. However my own counter argument to this is that it does make for an entertaining comp. stuck between the devil and the deep blue see. |

vCash: 515 | maybe they should just drop the Champions part of the name. Going back to the old days of the European cup will never happen. The C/L is great. Plus, it gives both the Old Firm a chance to enter it and make much needed money. |

vCash: 500 | whilst i understand the frustration and sentiment behind these posts, the problem as i see it, is that, if only the champions were allowed into the C/L then the 2nd tournament, be it the UEFA cup or whatever, would eclipse the C/L in terms of glamour and prestige. It could be that u would have the champions of Austria v the champs of Lithuania in the C/L or Milan v Valencia in the UEFA. What would u rather watch as a nuetral. Basically the UEFA cup would steel the spotlight from the C/L. Let's be honest, the C'L is a prelude to a full blown mid-week Euro league |

vCash: 500 | it already has and it's disguised as the 'Champions' League. A Euro tourny involving the top clubs (not club) from Europe playing mid-week. ringing any bells people? |

vCash: 500 | i certainly hope not but stranger things have happened in football. One thing is for certain, the bigger want to get bigger and keep the small clubs down. |

vCash: 500 | that's coming. The format is here to stay and that being the case then UEFA have to drop the 'Champions' tag for obvious reasons. To be honest that's all that's wrong with the competition |

vCash: 480 | While its still making how many millions it is a year I think UEFA will be happy to watch the money role in really. Another wa of making it slightly better and removing the dead wood would be to allow teams from outside Europe. Teams such as Corinthians and Internatiionazle would have a good chance I think. Also teams from the Mexocan Leauge and maybe even the American one. |

I don't think the CL is about prestige more about making money. I don't think a euro league will happen because the mega clubs the Man U's, Real Madrid's, Barcelona's,Milan's of this world can make more money in their own domestic leagues. | |

vCash: 500 | but it was the aforementioned clubs along with the other G14 clubs who pushed through the current C/L format in order to increase revenue. The C/L is already a form of a Euro league in its current format. In fact the big clubs have been pushing for the format to be extended. I totally agree, the current C/L is about money and that's the reason i started the thread 'has football lost its soul'. In answer to Beartons, the point i'm making is, if the C/L were just to be for national league champions, UEFA's flagship competiton will be eclipsed by the UEFA cup as that's where the big, prestigious games will be. I totally agree that the Champions part of the name does make a mockery of the competiton. Whether UEFA drop the tag 'Champions', remains to be seen. |

vCash: 500 | aside from the debate about whether UEFA should drop the 'Champions' tag from the tourny, it is still a great tournament running alongside the national leagues. At the end of the day, you can't beat C/L week especially when your team come from one of Europe's less glamorous leagues' |
