What is the ideal type of format for the Champions League?

there was a thread similar to this regarding 'was the C/L format too predictable now. i like it they way it is and it spices up football for those with dreary and prdictable leagues. as i said in the other thead i think they have to drop the 'Champions' tag from the competition

The last season where the champions cup was soley a knockout competition was the 91-92 campaign.

I can't see it going back towards the knockout cup. This will keep moving closer to a league format eventually ending in a good few years as the European League.

I agree though I think it is sad , the essence of cup football is that is sudden death - lose and your out thats what makes it special the CL is a bloated cash cow.
