Werder will attack Barcelona

Werder Bremen will not abandon their attacking style even though a draw against champions Barcelona would put them into the Champions league knockout stage, midfielder Torsten Frings said on Monday.

"Both sides are renowned for going forward so I cant see it being goalless," the German international told a news conference on the eve of the Nou Camp clash.

"We will be going for it knowing that Barcelona are always likely to score a goal. We have no fear of them, only respect. We will try and play well and win as we know that a place in the last 16 is at stake."

Werder have won their last three Champions League matches without conceding a goal, beating group leaders Chelsea 1-0 in their last game.

A draw against Barca would see the German side go through with the English champions.

Frings said the pressure of the possibility of becoming the first European champions to go out in the Champions League group stage could tell on the Catalans.

"They have much more to lose than us," he said. "We can spring a surprise as the pressure is on them."

Werder coach Thomas Schaaf was confident his team would be motivated by the challenge of trying to eliminate Barcelona in their home stadium.

"The players are looking forward to the atmosphere and we must deal with it and be inspired by it," he said.

"Barcelona have to win, but any other result would be fine with us. Not to go through with 10 points would be a bit hard to take, but if Barcelona go out that would be a surprise too. When the groups were drawn everyone had Barcelona and Chelsea down as the favourites. If we go through it will be sensational."

Should be a great game ,I think Frings is right playing for a draw would be a disaster .
