Cook's gift to former club

Fulham midfielder Lee Cook has made a donation to QPR in an attempt to financially help his former club.

The 25-year-old midfielder made the step up to the Premier League last month and wanted to make the gesture, thought to be around £250,000, to the club he supported as a boy.

"Rangers are struggling for money and, as everyone knows, I'm a boyhood Rangers fan," said Cook in the London Evening Standard.

"The club were saying that not enough money had been paid for me. I said 'I'll give you 10% of the sale'.

"It was totally my decision - there was no pressure from anyone. The transfer was agreed but I don't want to see them hard up."

Cook arrived at Loftus Road in 2004 from Watford and his consistency had him earmarked for a move to the Premier League.

Despite interest from other teams, Cook decided to stay in London, signing for Lawrie Sanchez on a four-year deal.

Sanchez has also signed Aaron Hughes, Paul Konchesky, Diomansy Kamara, David Healy, Steven Davis and Chris Baird as he shapes his squad after taking over from Chris Coleman towards the end of last season.

"These are exciting times at Fulham," Cook added. "They had a strong squad but they have spent more than £20million in the summer, which shows ambition."
