Porto champions again

FC Porto won the Portuguese title for the 4th time in 5 years with a 4-1 win at home against Desp. Aves

Sporting finished 2nd after they beat Belenenses 4-0 , with Porto being held 1-1 at half time Sporting were 45 mins from the title but it wasn't to be.

Benfica also won 2-0 against Académica but 3rd place is unacceptable for them and I don't think Fernando Santos will survive as coach.

Sporting face Belenenses in the cup final next sunday.

Final standings

1st Porto 69 pts, 2nd Sporting 68, 3rd Benfica 67

Nothing surprising. Porto have the strongest squad in Portugal, with hardly no competition.

Not so different to the prem really , in Portugal there are 3 teams capable of winning the title in England there are 2 , Chelsea & Man Utd

the difference is Porto's best player is Quaresma, Sportings best player is Moutinho, Benfica's best player Simao .... I think just reading that you can foretell whos gonna win because its obvious Quaresma is in a class of his own and belongs in one of the bigger leagues

I don't think 1 player can make that much difference

Benfica captain Simão Sabrosa has been named as player of the year in Portugal following a poll of the 16 superliga coaches

Manuel Veloso of Sporting was named young player of the year.
