Carrick Set To Join Manchester United

Tottenham Hotspur are expected to announce the sale of Michael Carrick to Mancester United later today.

United are expected to pay the London side in the region of £16M to £18M for the highly rated midfielder.

The deal comes quickly after claims from Real Madrid that they have tied up Manchester United’s star striker Ruud van Nistelrooy for around £10M on a 3 year deal.

"The player will undergo a medical on Friday morning and will be presented in the evening at 7pm (1800 BST) at the Palco de Honor at the Santiago Bernabeu," said a statement on the club's website.

Spurs will report a massive profit on the sale of the England internationalist, he signed from West Ham United for only £3M 2 years ago. They hoped that he would stay at the club but the London side’s strict wage structure could not allow them to pay his £50,000 per week wage demands.

Carrick now becomes the fifth most expensive player in the history of the Old Trafford side, behind the likes of Rio Ferdinand, Juan Sebastian Veron, Wayne Rooney and Van Nistelrooy.

Surprised by that, do you think that you still well covered there?

I am sure that the money will go a long way in Jol's capable hands.

Just been reading reports about Huddlestone from Jol, looks like he could be a player but not quite good enough yet to fill Carrick's position long term.

Here, here. I feel the same about Petrov at the moment. I would love for him to stay but he needs to want to stay, there is no point keeping a player who doesn't want to play for your club.

"Tottenham Hotspur plc announces that agreement has been reached for the transfer of the player registration of Michael Carrick, subject to the player agreeing personal terms and passing a medical, to Manchester United Football Club for a total consideration of up to £18.6m."

A little over the top for this player me thins. He's good but he's not £18.6m. And celtiic get slagged off by W***'s like Harry Rednapp for wanting £7m for Petrov. The transfer markets went mad.

Great price, it is just that I am a big fan of Carrick. I think he is a fantastic player and will be a loss to Spurs, but with that amount of money coming in it seems like good business on Jol's part too.

When someone doesn't want to be at a club it will show. Petrov was not interested in many of the preseason games and by all accounts he was not at the races yesterday playing against Hearts. Same sort of thing with Wigan, they will sell Chimbonda but they are just trying to get as high a price as possible IMO.
