Gera asks for Premiership move

Zoltan Gera has urged his Premiership suitors to make a bid for him - as he is finding playing for West Brom in the Championship "difficult". The Hungarian playmaker slapped in a transfer request earlier this summer after seeing the Baggies lose their Premiership status.

But Albion boss Bryan Robson turned down the request, along with snubbing several bids for Gera from Wigan. Latics boss Paul Jewell had seemingly given up on the deal - but may reignite his interest after Geras latest revelations.

He could face competition from top-flight new boys Reading, though, as they have had a £3.5million bid for Ivory Coast midfielder Emerse Fae rejected by Nantes - so may turn their attention to Gera. Watford may also throw their hat in the ring as Gera is in their price range and Adrian Boothroyd would hope his capture of the midfielders fellow Hungarian team-mate Tamas Priskin gives him the edge.

The 27-year-old midfielder, who scored for Albion in their 1-1 midweek draw with Cardiff, said: "Many people ask me how I can live on with the fact that I play in the Championship. I must admit that its quite difficult for me. Ive stressed many times that I would like to play in the Premiership, because I think I should be there. I know that many clubs are interested in me from the Premier League and it affirms my conviction. Of course its hard to deal with a situation like this, because it doesnt matter if I wanted to play in a higher division if my club officials had decided that they wouldnt let me go anyway."

Gera, however, insists he will give his all while still a Baggies player, saying: "Im a professional player and my club is very important for me and anyone who knows me can confirm that football is so important for me. Thats why its evident that Im trying to do my best in the games," he told the Express & Star.
