Hargreaves admits Man U offer

Owen Hargreaves has admitted he is considering an offer to join Manchester United. The England star - who is due to feature in central midfield in Wednesdays friendly with Greece at Old Trafford - claimed earlier this week he was as close to completing a move to the Premiership than he had ever been.

Hargreaves only recently signed a lucrative contract extension with Bayern Munich but has never made any secret of the fact he would like join an English club at some stage in his career. Although he spoke in general terms on Monday about that desire, without revealing which, if any, clubs had expressed a firm interest.

However, it now transpires Sir Alex Ferguson has made a move for the Canadian-born midfielder, who has spent all his professional career with Bayern. And, with just a fortnight to go before the transfer window closes, Hargreaves admits he is sorely tempted by the prospect of joining the Red Devils.

"The offer from Manchester United is fantastic," Hargreaves told Germanys Sport Bild magazine. "Particularly as an England international, it is of interest and you never know if such an opportunity will arise again. Now is the time to take the next step to develop even further."

What a turn around for the guy.

Yeah some difference from three months ago when 10million would have looked like "A Carrick" price tag for him.

Can see this happening as Man u need a defensive midfielder and Hargreaves has again stated his desire to leave Bayern.
Hargreaves is a good example of how fickle football fans can be. One minute most of England is slating him( despite playing for Bayern. oh wait, they're not in the Premiership, they must be crap) and the next minute he's great. Up here, most of us have always thought he's more than a decent player.

he's a decent player and he showed tonight (albeit against not the greatest Greek side in the world) tha when he plays he allows the likes of Lampard and Gerrard to really express themselves and hurt teams

Bayern Munich insist they do not have to cave in to Owen Hargreaves' desire to join Manchester United.

The midfielder has expressed his wish to clinch a move to The Premiership prior to the closure of the transfer window.

After a couple of impressive performances for England, The Red Devils are reportedly ready to pay £17 million for Hargreaves.

United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed his pursuit of the Canadian-born 25-year-old and feels the player wants to head to Old Trafford.

German champions Bayern are digging their heels in and are determined to resist any big-money offers for Hargreaves.

With the player under contract until 2010, the Bavarian giants appear to be in a strong position and are determined not to buckle under the pressure of United's interest.

"We want to develop a new, young team," Bayern general manager Uli Hoeness told Bild am Sonntag.

"Therefore, we do not sell Hargreaves.

"Bayern Munich will never become the ball of the big clubs and become soft starting from a certain sum.

"If you only have this image at times, then you are broken."

When asked whether Bayern can keep a player at the Allianz Arena against his will, Hoeness remained optimistic Hargreaves would stay.

He added: "Yes, you can do that.

"I know that, perhaps, until August 31 his thoughts are with Manchester.

"But, starting from September 1, if the transfer list is closed, his whole heart will again be here with FC Bayern."

Bayern Munich general manager Uli Hoeness has slammed Owen Hargreaves for continuing to reiterate his desire to join Manchester United.

The England international has emerged as a transfer target for The Red Devils after his impressive performances in The Three Lions' recent games.

Hargreaves has confirmed he is keen to quit the German champions to move to Old Trafford but Bayern continue to be a stumbling block in the switch.

The Allianz Arena outfit are determined to resist United's advances to keep the 25-year-old at the club and have now hit out at the player for his behaviour in trying to orchestrate his exit.

Hoeness is adamant the Canadian-born midfielder will not be leaving the club during the summer and has warned Hargreaves to accept the decision or face the consequences.

"I would advise him to keep his mouth shut now or else I will get really angry and that won't be very good for him," Hoeness fumed.

"I simply can't understand why he keeps going on about it after the two talks we had.

"He will not be allowed to leave and he must learn to accept the decisions of his bosses. That is simply a question of respect."

Hargreaves played no part in Sunday's 2-1 victory over Bochum and spent the game on the bench following a bout of flu.

He sounds as though he is actually losing the plot a little, he will be nervous as Hargreaves is a main part of the Bayern team and losing him now before the transfer window closes will not leave much time for him to find a replacement.

However, a £17M bid would be enough to tempt the Germans to sell. Whether he is worth that is up for debate as I have not seen enough to prove that cost.

This kinda proves what Huddle was saying

Rummenigge now says his club will look to have The Red Devils sanctioned should their efforts to lure Hargreaves continue.

"We have told Manchester United that they should stop trying to tempt Hargreaves. If they don't we will have to turn to Fifa," Rummenigge told the tz newspaper.

"A club may only contact a player if that player's own club gives its permission.

"We are not like Hamburg, who decided to sell Khalid Boulahrouz the moment they had an offer for him.

"We are FC Bayern and we don't give in to anybody. Here it is the employer who decides what happens and not the employee," the former German international striker added.

Hargreaves has intimated his desire to quit The Allianz Arena for United, but it seems Sir Alex Ferguson faces an uphill battle to land the 25-year-old.
