City to pull a Mooney

Norwich City are reportedly lining up an offer for Longford Town striker Dave Mooney, after he turned down a contract from Crystal Palace.

The eircom League Premier Division forward scored 19 goals in 33 league games last season and was offered a two year deal by The Eagles.

Mooney turned down the chance to play at Selhurst Park, however, as it would have paid less than he earned last season playing for Longford while continuing to work as a full-time electrician in Ireland.

Norwich are said to be weighing up an offer for the league's top scorer last season, with Irish sides Bohemians and Drogheda United also interested in landing the player's signature.

The striker scored a hat-trick in Longford's final match of the season last month, a 3-1 home win against Derry City which failed to prevent relegation.

Meanwhile, City have also been alerted by news that Charlton are ready to offload striker Izale McLeod in the January transfer window.

City, having been strongly linked with him during his time with Derby and MK Dons, are likely to be among a number of clubs vying for the 23-year-old's signature.

Since arriving at The Valley in August McLeod has made just one Championship start and has yet to score in 14 appearances.

The South London Press has reported that McLeod will be allowed to leave in January - providing Charlton can recoup the £1.1m they paid MK Dons.

The Canaries and Leicester are both said to be ready to snap up the man who hit 24 goals in League Two last season.
