La Liga strugglers Levante are heading the race to sign former Champions League winner Jon Dahl Tomasson from Stuttgart during the January transfer window.

Striker Tomasson, 30, is keen to play regular first-team football again after falling behind Cacau, Marco Streller and Mario Gomez in the pecking order at the Bundesliga side.

But the Dane, who won the Champions League with Milan in 2003, has not been the subject of any official bid yet – according to Stuttgart sporting director Horst Heldt.

Heldt said: “I cannot confirm whether an enquiry has been made by Levante. Things could change in January, but that does not mean we will automatically sell.”

Tomasson, who has scored 43 goals in his 85 international appearances for Denmark, is also reported to be interesting Hamburg, and will likely be available for £2.5 million (3.7 million euros).
