Chealse Sign Kalou

Chelsea have signed the 20 year old Ivory Coast striker Salomon Kalou from Feyenoord today on a four year deal.

The new Chelsea striker has scored on 42 occasions for the Dutch side after 83 appearances.

The Netherland’s manager, Marco Van Basten, rated Kalou so highly that he promised the young striker a place in the Germany bound Dutch squad on the condition that he could secure a Dutch passport. Unfortunately for Kalou this bid failed in May and means that he will miss out on this year’s tournament.

Kalou is excited by his move top the Premiership, said, "I didn’t dream of joining such a big club as early as this".

"I’m happy and proud that I will be able to tell my children and grandchildren that I played for clubs like Chelsea and Feyenoord."

"I spoke with Jose Mourinho, in French, and he convinced me," Kalou added.

"I obviously also asked Ruud Gullit about the club and I told him that I’m proud to follow in his footsteps. He is the one that gave me the chance at Feyenoord after all.

"I’m not afraid of the competition at Chelsea. I will give my all in London to be successful, I believe in my ability. You always have to try to get the best out of yourself. I will become a better player there."

He will compete with his unsettled international team mate Didier Drogba at Chelsea for the striker’s role at the club. This deal also puts doubts over whether Andrei Shevchenko will be Stamford Bridge bound.

Haven't seen this guy play but surely at only 20 he won't be competing with Drogba/Crespo or Schevchenko for a first team place..i see this guy as more of a promising player who is replacing Carlton Cole.

If Van Basten guaranteed his place at the World Cup and did not even take Roy Makaay then he must be a talent.

But you may have a point with Chelsea, case in hand would be SWP. Was that more than £20M and hardly gets a game?

could be the ace up mourhino's sleeve next season. He's got pace, power and an impressive strike rate.Could be the player to look out for next season.

How many aces does this guy need, get a grip man. He is overrated as a coach, buys multi-million pound players with no intention of playing them.

Phillips was signed and he was supposed to be Beckham's replacement for Germany, now look what he has done, totally nullified his chances of going to Germany.

I would give Jose a kick where the sun don't shine for that one

Not too worry I fancy Rafa to have the rest of the aces up his sleeve.

Kalou is a good player, but not good enough for Chelsea to be a regular..
Although he is good for the future alright

He was good enough two weeks ago.....but....now they have Shevchenko he just slipped down the pecking order.....although learning from him drogba and Crespo will do him a lot of good.
