Smith in Hammers talks?

West Ham boss Alan Curbishley has reportedly held talks with Manchester United's Alan Smith in an attempt to lure him to Upton Park.

According to the Evening Standard, Curbishley is particularly keen on Smith as he can play as either a striker or in central midfield in the absence of Scott Parker.

But Curbishley must persuade Yorkshireman Smith to re-locate to London instead of joining one of Middlesbrough, Newcastle or Everton.

Ironically, Smith could turn down West Ham if their move for Kieron Dyer goes through, freeing up a squad place for him at Newcastle.

The Evening Chronicle suggests that Smith's move to St James' Park hinges on Dyer's exit. The Hammers are the only club interested in Dyer despite reported interest from Tottenham and Man City.

Newcastle boss Sam Allardyce has made it clear that Dyer will only move for the right price, which is considerably more than the £4m that West Ham are willing to pay.

west ham really are racking up the trouble makers now they want smith another firery player who won't backdown, but then west ham are linked to everyone these days so you have to take it with a pinch of salt, bit like the gudjohnsen story

yeah thats tru but he has not spent any money yet... he has but the sales of other players mirrors them... so he is still talking about dyer, now smith, appiah apparently is on his way.. imo i would like dyer and appiah to sign but we still need 1 more striker and a left back so i think ther will be at least 3 or 4 new signing b4 the end of aug if not more.. lets just hope they gel
