An injury-ravaged Lille side managed to secure their first win of the season after a late goal gave them a 2-1 victory over Metz.

A Marko Maric header settled the affair in the 88th minute after Michel Batsos had given the visitors the lead direct from a corner in the first half, only for Metz to equalise through Momar N'Diaye.

Defeat for Metz leaves them still searching for their first points of the season following promotion last term.

Lille could have took the lead as early as the second minute as Jean Makoun beat Richard Trivino with a stunning header, but the midfielder's effort brushed the crossbar.

Metz had a good chance of their own in the 16th minute as Dino Djiba hit a superb lob which nearly beat Tony Sylva, but the goalkeeper managed to scramble back and clear.

Three minutes later came Bastos' moment of brilliance as the Brazilian swung in a corner that lobbed Trivino and nestled in the far corner.

Lille had the first real chance of the second half as Stefan Lichtsteiner struck a shot from nearly 40 yards which the keeper had to deflect away for a corner.

Metz came back at them though and Wilmer Aguirre managed to beat defender Nicolas Plestan with a mazy run and struck a sweet shot that went inches over the bar.

In the 83rd minute the home side looked to have earned a draw as N'Diaye latched onto a poor clearance from Franck Beria and lashed a volley into the top corner.

But their hearts were broken as Maric rose to meet a corner with an unstoppable header which found its way into the top corner.
