vCash: 480 | Mexican league round up Morelia had three players sent off and still managed to beat Monterrey 1-0 in a remarkable Mexican championship match at the weekend. Morelia were already down to eight men when Hector Altamirano scored their winner direct from a free kick with three minutes to play in Saturday's game. The Monarchs had defender Hugo Sanchez shown a straight red card in the 29th minute, then Omar Trujillo was dismissed in the 66th minute for a second bookable offence. He was followed by Fernando Arce in the 84th minute, also for a second bookable offence. The defeat left hapless Monterrey rooted to the bottom of Group Two in the Clausura championship with eight points from 11 games. Morelia are second in Group Three with 16 points. Former Paraguay coach Anibal Ruiz made a losing start in charge of Veracruz as the Red Sharks lost 1-0 at home to Toluca. Striker Sergio Ponce, who was also on target in last Wednesday's Libertadores Cup win over Boca Juniors, notched the winner in the 69th minute. Uruguayan Ruiz, who coached Paraguay at last year's World Cup, is Veracruz's third coach this year. Group One leaders Cruz Azul went down to a 2-0 defeat at San Luis, where Brazilian pair Irenio Soares and Sebastiao Pereira scored in the last 20 minutes. Cruz Azul, who have 20 points from 11 games, had Mexican international midfielder Gerardo Torrado sent off in the 75th minute. |
