Do you care about the FA cup ?

Just seen the attendance for todays FA cup semi final 50,559 thats 20,000 below capacity, unbelievable .

So I thought I'd ask does anyone actualy care about the FA CUP anymore?

When I was a boy the FA cup final was the best day of the year better than Christmas or your birthday , it was the only domestic football match shown live on the telly in the whole year and the country literally ground to a halt to watch it.

With so much live footy these days I guess it's just another game now

Sad realy or is it what do you think?

Just a note to our Scottish posters , obviously you don't care about the English FA cup , but I'm sure you could apply the same logic to the Scottish FA CUP.

I still care, its a football tournament at the end of the day so I can't help but care. It's just there seems to be less and less major upsets which get the intrest levels up because of the gap to the Premiership being so big. I do recall a big fuss being made of the Bristol City v Middlesborogh game saying that was an upset but it was only a 2-2 draw. With Man Utd v Chelsea in the final the casual observer might find it intresting but how many week in week out footy fans will feel the same?

I think thats a good point , it used to be much more open , I can remember several 2nd division sides winning the cup which is unthinkable now , even moderate prem teams seem to have no chance . I think 95 was the last time anyone outside the big 4 won it.

Yes , Millwall got to the final which was a great achievement but they were hammered , West Ham went close last year but still lost , as I said Everton were the last team from outside the big four to win it and that was in 95.

Southampton won it way back in 1976 ( I remember it like it was yesterday) but thats the point I was making lower division teams and lower ranking top flight teams used to win it fairly often in those days but now it's a stitch up between the elite.
