Bundesliga 07/08

Big spending Bayern Munich got off to a flyer on the opening day of the German season

A Luca Toni goal followed by a brace from Miroslav Close gave them a comfortable 3-0 win over Hansa Rostok

The season opener on Friday night saw champions Stuttgart held 2-2 by Schalke 04 , the team they pipped for the title last season

Werder Bremen who finished 3rd last term also drew 2-2 at Bochum , Hamburg who finished very strongly last season to pull away from the drop zone started this year with a 1-0 win at Hannover . Other opening day winners were Eintracht Frankfurt & Armenia Bieledfeld.

It's difficult to see beyond Bayern in Germany this year but I think their nearest rivals could be Hamburg.

Bayern crushed potential title rivals Werder Bremen 4-0 in an impressive display on saturday with Frank Ribery calling the shots , Luca Toni was again amongst the scorers.

Hamburg beat Bayer Leverkusen 1-0 with a Van der Vaart penalty and are the only other team with 2 wins from 2 Bundesliga games , it could be the Dutchmans last action in a Hamburg shirt as he is strongly linked with a move to Valencia

Champions Stuttgart lost 3-1 at Hertha Berlin whilst the team they pipped to the title last season Schalke 04 thumped Dortmund 4-1.

Another week another goal for Luca Toni another big win for Bayern , this time it was 3-0 over Hanover , Van Bommell & Altintop with the other goals

Hamburg lost the only other 100% record in this seasons Bundesliga going down 2-1 at Bochum

Champions Stuttgart got their first win of the season 1-0 against Duisburg , Mario Gomez making his first start of the season got the goal.

Of the other fancied teams , Dortmund got over their poor start with a 3-0 win against Cottbus , Werder Bremen won 1-0 at Nurnberg & Schalke were held 1-1 at Wolfsburg.

Bayern Munich were held 1-1 at Hamburg but remain 3 points clear at the top of the table as the teams close to them failed to capatilise.

Champions Stuttgart poor start continued as they lost 1-0 to newly promoted Karlsruhe and are currently down in 15th place.

After 4 games Bayern top the table with 10 points followed by 6 teams all on 7

Maybe it's not going to be as easy for Bayern as we thought this season , they were held 1-1 at home by Schalke this weekend to see their lead at the top reduced to just 1 point.

Arminia Bielefeld are currently 2nd after a 4-2 win over bottom club Hansa Rostok , Eintracht Frankfurt are 3rd after they beat fancied Hamburg 2-1

Top of the table
1st Bayern Munich 11prs, 2nd Arminia Bielefeld 10, 3rd Eintracht Frankfurt 10 ,4th Borussia Dortmund 9, 5th Hertha Berlin 9, 6th Karlsurhe 9.
