i never ever thought that mclaren should have got the job in the first place. I think O'Neill would be the obvious choice. He's a winner, and gets the best out of his players. Enlgand don't need a a master tactician. they need someone that can make thier players play better than they are, and thats what O'neill does best.

However I think O'neill might still think that there is still a job to finish at Villa and would miss the day to day activity of club management.

"We hate Kelvin MacKenzie, he's a p**f!" T shirts now on sale. £5 each. Who says Scot's don't know how to make money.

I think both O'Neill and Allardyce would have done a better job than Mclaren although lets not have a clamour for an english manager like we had last time the FA have to decide who they want and move heaven and earth to get him regardless of his nationality.

i suspect not shearer is being widley touted but i think that is just wishful thinking on the fa's part as they seem to think he can be just as good as van basten, klinsman and billic sadly i don't think he is cerebal enough to have the same effect as the afore mentioned he epitomises the british bulldog spirit which is great but unless i am doing him a huge injustice i don't think he is one of the games greatest thinker.

it would be really quite silly to put a totally unproven manager in charge. Shearer himself must know that his career wouldn't be able to recover fora very long time if he screwed up, so i can't see him taking it. he wants it, but not yet.

Looks like Mourinho's in for it all of a sudden..in his typical riddle like way.

Although I'm doing quite a good job in fantasy manager... and I'm playing Phil Neville.

i think mourhinio wouldn't be a bad choice as he has prob the biggest ego in football management and we need someone like that to kick start the players. i agree with the point about shearer though

Shearer could be a good manager in years to come, but you can't start at the top, because the only way to go is down. taking charge of a Championship club at best, or a spell as assistant manager somewhere would benefit him.

Jose, meanwhile, i'm not sure about. he could get a job at any number of clubs, and i'm not sure he'd settle for a national side - especially when he's already said he'd only manage Portugal if anyone. but then, who knows with Mourinho?

that's true maybe we should look to capello or lippi as they are the most experienced managers available and it's it about time we had someone with international experience

Mourinho would be a bad choice in my opinion. He may well choose Chelsea players and run the team on reputation. I may be wrong and he could drop Lamprd and strip Terry of the captaincy but I think his roots in English football go too deep.
For me it's O'Neill. He gets the best out of young players and could certainly bring us success in major tournaments. If we could get him, I'd be extremely satisfied, he's a great man-manager and would bring us something sifferent.

Brian Barwick, Stop being a complete tosser get that arragont tit Mourinho in the england job,Because if you mess him about he won't want to do it! Although if i wanted an Englishman the only person I'd pick would be Harry Redknapp

Surely thats the same with every manager linked with the job. Its a stupid thing to say that a manager will only pick theplayers he has a knowledge of.

How many Boro players did McClaren pick?

I dont care who England pick, however if they want to be a viable and competitive team it better be somebody wise in the game.
England over the years have been no bad, but usually under achieve, not really too sure why, other than poor coaching?
England have a big pool, hell there is over 50 million people in England, they have many second generation offspring playing from immigrants from all over the world, mainly from the colonies etc, just look at the dark skinned players that are verygood fitba players, not to mention some from Scotland, Ireland and Wales, that choose to play for them, Hardgraves I just thought of there, he was born in Canada.
Anyhoo it looks like a foreigner that will get the job.
Not to worry English fans, I think things will improve, maybe not much, but they will improve.
And its ok, because I saw England win the World Cup back in 1966, and believe me, I know the game, they stole it, so y`all dont have a helluva lot to live up to from the past.

no he was just hoping to lure in other jobs or as des Kelly put it "Jose's playful tart routine brought him good publicity, but when the Fa called his bluff the game was up"
