BIG SHOCK Raul not included in spanish squad

Real Madrid forward Raul has been omitted from Luis Aragones' Spain squad for the Euro 2008 qualifier against Sweden on October 7.

The 29-year-old, who became the Champions League's all-time leading scorer with a brace in Real's 5-1 win over Dynamo Kiev on Tuesday, will also miss the friendly against Argentina four days later.

Aragones told AS: "There are other players that have come in and you do not ask me anything about them.

"I understand that is how the media works, but...I have not spoken with Raul.

"I am not used to speaking with the players that I have not included.

"I don't see it as a revolution. I do not believe they exist in football.

"Taking the Swedes into consideration, I thought this was for the best (to drop Raul).

"It is my opinion. Sometimes I am wise, sometimes less so. And when I am not, I tell you."

Squad: Jose Reina (Liverpool), Iker Casillas (Real Madrid); Antonio Lopez, Pablo Ibanez (both Atletico Madrid), Carles Puyol (Barcelona), Joan Capdevila (Deportivo La Coruna), Juanito (Real Betis), Sergio Ramos (Real Madrid); Cesc Fabregas (Arsenal), Andres Iniesta, Xavi (Barcelona), Xabi Alonso, Luis Garcia (both Liverpool), David Albelda (Valencia); Fernando Torres (Atletico Madrid), Jose Antonio Reyes (Real Madrid), David Villa, Miguel Angel Angulo (both Valencia).

Villa and Torres would be a better strikeforce then Raul and somebody. Raul hasnt done much recently. Age catching up with him.

he is either brave or stupid. he should at least make the squad if he won't be in the starting 11. Villa and Torres are talented young players but are not proven or have achieved anything like Raul has. He is world class

I just watched a game with Raul ripping the opposition apart in the champions league. He looked like his old self again.

However, I am still very surprised Aragaones is still in charge. Not playing Raul at the WC and his comments about French players.

ya dat was a surprise lost for spain but i still think raul deserve to be in the team since his form was good in the Champions League.

has Spain ever done well regardless of who is on their team. I don't know maybe this is what they needed, anything to get them to stop choking on their boots is good.
