Government to back world cup bid.

The government is willing to back an English bid to host the 2018 world cup says sports minister Richard Caborn.
Caborn revealed chancellor Gordon Brown who met UEFA president Lennart Johansson on wednesdaywas "very,very keen" on the idea.
Asked whether the government would support a bid Caborn said "yes I have no doubt".

As for this world cup idea, i'd only support it if the venues included where also in Scotland, Wales and NI as it's the UK tax payers money that will be used to fund this bid!!

I agree I was going to mention whether A British government should be backing an English bid but I thought it would be opening a can of worms as a UK bid might lead to calls for a UK team which I know is the last thing you would want.

Euro 96 was a success. i would like to see the games spread over the UK then i can go up and visit friends in Scotland. cool. Football was invented in Britain and there are some great stadiums. The only problem for me is the notorious British weather. A world cup in the rain etc.....
