scotland playing at world cup!

It's official - Simple Minds are set to kick-off the World Cup at a massive party in Berlin.
The Scots rockers will headline at Berlin's Brandenburg Gate on June 7th - two days before the first match. The German capital is throwing a party to start a month-long cultural festival that runs alongside the World Cup. "Simple Minds are football mad, so this will be the best gig in the world for them," says a spokesperson for the band. "It comes at a great time in the band's career - they will also be performing a series of outdoor music festivals all over Europe this summer." The band will perform their classic song Don't You (Forget About Me), as well as Home, from last year's critically acclaimed album Black & White 050505.

i knew we would get there somehow! lol

Are you on the payroll like? Nice press release. They're ok, Don't you was the only really good song they ever did. But at least they're Scottish!

What drugs were at that party then?

Woohoo, does that raise our coefficient??

Don't get excited Rangers will still be playing in the diddy Euro Cup next season. [Just had to get that in after we reached the final in 2003 and it suddenly became the diddy tourney]

I honestly thought these rockers had retired. How old is Jim Kerr anyway?

dont you is crap lol! i like their early stuff, more like the killers/editors type of new wave! but i understand, dont you/alive&kicking/belfast child/waterfront etc etc is what they are famous for! great live and its amazing their still going, though nowadays they are as popular as flourescent socks lol!
but their gigs still sell out! infact i might go, and maybe i could also get myself a sneaky ticket to the opening match!

I think that we should name these comments.

I say we should plump for "beartonism"

Any other suggestions?

No point in your lot turning up this year then? I am sure there were TWO places available for the CL in Scotland last year, yes?

seriously, this might be the closest this little nation might get to a major tourney for a while (look at the section for the Euros').
anyway, saw the minds earlier this year in Glasgow and despite being a metal head, i have to admit they kicked ass. superb gig.
we may not be to give the world a great football team but we can sure give them some kickass music
