Gamarra: We Can Beat England

Paraguay defender Carlos Gamarra is confident that his team can open their World Cup campaign with a win over group favourites England.

The veteran is desperate for his country to have a successful campaign and has targeted Sweden as the most dangerous team in group B.

"England is a tough match, but we can beat them if we play intelligent football," said Gamarra.

"We have traditionally played rough football, but now we have more skilful players.

"I think we can get into the second round and surprise a few people."

In a surprising turn of event the Paraguay defender has claimed that although he respectful of England’s chances the two teams that will qualify from the group will be Paraguay and Sweden.

He continued, "I so fear England, but I think Sweden are the main threat in the group.

"England have great players, but I think Sweden are the most dangerous team because they are more experienced and have a more compact team.

"And this is a better Paraguayan team than the ones that got to the second round of the last two World Cups, so our aim is to get into the quarter finals this time."

Confident words from the Paraguay defender, but do you think that this will just drive England on some more?

England don't need driven on, don't you watch the news? Rooney's ok, so they've already won.

It would have mattered with or without Rooney anyway. Whatever happens, whichever way England go out there will be some poor player who gets tagged with 'It was his fault we didn't win it'
