Uruguay squad to face the Aussies

Uruguay coach Oscar Washington Tabarez has named a 20-man overseas based squad for the June 2 friendly meeting with Australia in Sydney.

Uruguay are preparing for the Copa America, which is set to take place in Venezuela between June 26 and July 15, while Australia are beginning preparations for July’s Asian Cup.

Tabarez’s side have been drawn in Group A of the Copa America alongside Bolivia, Peru and hosts Venezuela, while the Socceroos will face Iraq, Oman and co-hosts Thailand in the group stage of the Asian Cup.

Uruguay and Australia last met in November 2005 as the Socceroos secured a place in the 2006 World Cup following a penalty shoot-out victory at the Telstra Stadium after the play-off tie ended 1-1 on aggregate.

Uruguay squad to face Australia on June 2 in Sydney: Carini (Internazionale), Viera (Villarreal); Scotti (Argentinos Juniors), Lugano (Fenerbahce), Rodriguez (Schalke 04,), Victorino (Veracruz), Diogo (Real Zaragoza), Fucile (Porto), Filgueiras (Arsenal); Garcia (Celta Vigo), Perez (Monaco), Giacomazzi (Palermo), Rodriguez (Paris Saint Germain), Canobbio (Celta Vigo), Recoba (Internazionale); Forlan (Villarreal), Abreu (San Luis), Estoyanoff (Deportivo de La Coruna), Vargas (Monaco), Sanchez (Toluca).
