China coach Zhu Guanghu has announced a 23-man squad for the friendly meeting with United States on June 2 at the Spartan Stadium in San Jose.

Guanghu has not included players from Shandong Luneng and Shanghai Shenhua due to their commitments in the A3 Champions Cup. The tournament is an annual round-robin tournament played between teams from Japan, Korea and China.

Manchester City‘s Sun Jihai has also been left out of the squad to allow him time to recover following the English Premiership season, while Sheffield United defender Li Tie keeps his place in the party.

The 29-year-old Sheffield United defender missed the March friendlies against Australia and Uzbekistan, but was recalled for the friendly against Thailand.

Beijing Guoan’s Zhang Shuai also keeps his place in the squad after recently making his comeback after a long spell on the sidelines.

The two sides last met six years ago in January 2001 when the USA claimed a 2-1 victory courtesy of goals from Brian McBride and a China own goal.

China kick-off their Asian Cup Group C campaign against tournament co-hosts Malaysia on July 10, before playing Iran on July 15 and Uzbekistan on July 18.
