how is Italy better than Brazil? In a match between brazil I can see them getting out-classed and out-played all-over the pitch and end up losing something like 2-0.

Yes but the current form Brazil are in they are capable of taking Italy out. And if it is simply about World-Cups shouldnt brazil be 1st seen as theyve won it 5times

... uh, no. the world ranking system is based on results over a recent period. the quality of opposition also comes into it, so being beaten by France - currently ranked second - loses them quite a few points.

oh, and even under your system, Italy would still be up there, since they've won it four times.
