Maldini pondering retirement

AC Milan captain Paolo Maldini is considering retiring from the game at the end of the season.

The 38-year-old has been a key player for the Rossoneri since making his Serie A debut in 1985, but the centre-half can see the finishing line in sight.

"For the time being everything is okay," said Maldini on the club's official TV channel.

"I am playing regularly and that was my aim at the start of the season.

"But if I was to think now about what I will do in the month of June, the idea would be to retire.

"I could change my mind, but at this time of the season that is my idea. In June I will be 39 and it's way past the age of retirement for a player."

Maldini, Italy's most capped player, is under contract with Milan until next summer and has made nine league appearances out of a possible 12 this campaign.

it'll be a sad day when Il Capitano retires. the number 3 shirt won't be seen again at Milan.

top class defender, captain and professional. a legend of our time. He could show players ten years younger than him a thing or two about the game. Even at 39 he's still top drawer

i wonder what he bloody eats to keep going in top flight football. he's a machine. He will go down in history as one of the all time best defenders and i'm glad that i'm old enough to have witnessed most of his career

aye, the way he was playing in the Milan derby the other week he could manage that no problem. still shows players half his age how it's done.

Good news for Milan fans Maldini apears to be reconsidering, I read on Chanel 4's Italian football website (sorry I've no idea how to put a link in ) that he sais he hasn't made a final decision yet.
