Serie A 07/08

The season kicked off in Italy last weekend & the grand old lady hit the ground running , Juve thrashing Livorno 5-1 on their return to Serie A thanks to a Trezeguet hat-trick & a brace from Iaquinta

Milan also got off to a great start with a 3-0 win at Genoa , with Kaka scoring twice , Roma also had a comfortable away win 2-0 at Palermo

Champions Inter slipped up however as they were held 1-1 by Udinese thanks to a 90th minute Cordoba own goal

Juve suffered their first set back of the season as they were suprisingly beaten 1-0 at home by Udinese yesterday , Roma top serie A with the only 100% record after 3 games following their 2-0 win at Reggina , Inter are 2nd after they beat Catania 2-0 & Napoli lie 3rd as a 2-0 scorline against Sampdoria made it 2 wins from 3 for them , Milan are 5th after they were held 1-1 by Siena

Top of the table
1st Roma 9 pts, 2nd Inter 7, 3rd Napoli 6, 4th Juventus 6, 5th Milan 5

Roma remain top after a 2-2 draw with Juventus , Inter missed the chance to join Roma on 10 points as they also drew 2-2 with Livorno , Milan were also held 1-1 by Parma.

Unfortunately the title race is all but over. Inter seem to be running away with it. Milan have been performing dreadfully at home but we seem to be winning all our away games which is befuddling. Hopefully with numerous signings in January we can consolidate a top four position and be in contention for the Champions League in 08/09.

And we replace Dida who is really just a joke.

i have to agree Prof, Dida is a liability.

i had hoped that the Madonnina would have gone our way the other week, since we were technically the away side, but it didn't really work out like that.

Internazionale marched on at the top of Serie A following a 2-1 win over Milan in the city derby at Giuseppe Meazza.

Juventus and Fiorentina both recorded home wins, while Reggina posted just a second Serie A success of the season.

Following Roma's 2-0 home triumph over Sampdoria on Saturday, Inter picked up the gauntlet to prevail 2-1 at home to Milan.

The Rossoneri, who are struggling this season, took an 18th minute lead through Andrea Pirlo's superbly executed free-kick.

But Inter levelled before half-time through Julio Cruz and Esteban Cambiasso scored a 63rd minute winner to give the reigning champions a seven-point cushion at the top.

Juventus consolidated their position in third spot with a 2-0 victory at home to lowly Siena.

Hasan Salihamidzic opened the scoring on 32 minutes and French striker David Trezeguet added the second just before the hour mark.

Fiorentina thrashed bottom club Cagliari 5-1 at home, with Adrian Mutu and Mario Santana both scoring twice.

Ricardo Montolivo's third minute goal was quickly cancelled out by Michele Fini before Mutu put Fiorentina back in front just before half-time.

Mutu converted a penalty within 60 seconds of the start of the second half before Santana scored on 48 and 80 minutes.

Reggina edged closer to climbing out of the bottom three with an impressive 3-1 triumph at home to Catania, with Francesco Modesto opening the scoring on 34 minutes.

Luca Vigiani made it 2-0 on 78 minutes before Catania pulled one back in the 90th minute through Juan Vargas.

However, deep into injury-time, Vigiani notched his second of the game to secure a precious three points for Reggina.

Fourth-placed Udinese twice threw away a lead to draw 2-2 at home to 10-man Empoli, who scored a last-minute equaliser.

Andrea Dossena put Udinese ahead on 22 minutes before Empoli drew level five minutes into the second half through Andrea Raggi.

The 57th minute dismissal of Francesco Pratali put Empoli on the back foot before Udinese regained the lead five minutes from time through Antonio Di Natale.

But with Empoli seemingly out of the game, the visitors snatched an unlikely point in the final minute through Lino Marzoratti.

Napoli were held 1-1 at home by Torino, who almost hung on for a win, despite playing the second half with 10 men.

Alessandro Rosina put Torino in front on 36 minutes before Vincenzo Grella was sent off just before the break.

Maurizio Domizzi missed a penalty early in the second half for Napoli before Marek Hamsik equalised 10 minutes from time.

Lazio came from two goals down to force a 2-2 draw at Palermo, who had gone in front on 34 minutes through Fabio Simplicio.

Carvalho Amauri made it 2-0 just after the interval, only for Lazio to reply on 59 minutes courtesy of Fabio Firmani.

Sebastiano Siviglia was sent off on 75 minutes, but substitute Igli Tare levelled with 10 minutes to go before Lazio had Lorenzo Di Silvestri dismissed a minute from time.

Fernando Tissone's 33rd minute goal secured Atalanta a 1-1 draw at Livorno, who had gone ahead through Fabio Galante on 26 minutes.
