6 Nations Thread

The 6 Nations starts this weekend.

This weekends fixtures

SAT
Italy v France (Rome 13:30)

England v Scotland (Twickenham) 16:00

Sun
Wales v Ireland (Cardiff) 15:00

3 home wins this week for me,I think Italy will shock the French ,England to edge Scotland and Wales to beat Ireland, the Irish have a great record in Cardiff but they go into this 6 nations as favourites which is something they are never comfortable with.

Ireland will be playing their home matches at Croke Park , a magnificant stadium with a capacity of 82,000 all seated after the GAA finaly realised this is the 21st centuary and changed their stance against "British" sports , so the atmosphere at those games should be fantastic.

I cant see a Italian victory over France im afraid. I would be intrested to see the atmosphere at this new ground. Lansdown road had a magnificent atmospehere.

Irish will fail this year. I cant see past France winning.

I agree about Ireland I think starting as favourites will be a disaster for them ,I think Wales may win it though it could be a 4 way tie.

27 points for Jonny Wilkinson ( though that was never a try) and Andy Robinson was saying he wouldn't have picked him ,I think that speaks volumes.

England to win easily I think, but Scotland may beat Wales they are much stronger at Murrayfield than on the road, Ireland v France is a tough one to call but home advantage could just see Ireland home, if O'Driscoll is unfit it will be a massive blow he's such a talisman for them and it's just possible that the emotion of the occasion (playing at Croke Park) may just get the better off them.

My predictions

England by at least 20 points
Scotland by 5-10 points
Ireland to sneak home by 3-5 points.

France beat Ireland 20 - 17 with a last minute try, looks like another grand slam for the French this year

Tomorrows fixtures:

Scotland v Italy (Murrayfield ) 15:00

Ireland v England ( Croke Park) 17:30

France v Italy (Stade de France) 20:00

Scotand to beat Italy by 10-15 points

O'Driscoll is back for Ireland and Robinson is out for England with Wilkinson also doubtful but I have a feeling England will sneak it.

I expect a much improved performance from the Welsh but France will still be too good for them

too many attempts to get tries by Scotland. we should have gone for the easy points - not incredibly exciting rugby, but with an Italian defence like that, who would have cared?

Ireland 43-13 England

I know Ireland were favourites but the margin of the victory will raise a few eyebrows.

France 32 - 21 Wales

As expected a much improved perfomance from the Welsh , they led for a long time but France were just too good for them in the end.

I don't know about that I think Ireland are the best side in europe at the moment ,despite that loss to France but New Zealand are far and away the best team in the world and are massive favourites for the world cup ,although I think home advantage could prove decisive and I think France will win it
