Who do you think is the best boxer ever, In his prime?

I think 88-Iron Mike Tyson was just simply Unbeatable, With 35 wins out of 35 matches. 27 won by knockout by the 5th round and 17 won by the first round alone. If anybody else can do that, I'd like to hear your arguement

I wud say Iron Mike just becoz of his quick combo's and just his raw physical strength is just impecable. Not to mention the anger and viciousness that he plays with just look at how he ate holyfields ear and tryed to do the same with lennox foot

Ali in his prime would mince Tyson, Just watch Rumble in the Jungle as an example. An old weak man knocks out a young powerful fighter. Just a small example of the levels he has achieved

If it came down 2 it and Ali and Tyson at their primes (Ali 1965, Tyson 1988) Then it would come down 2 really if Tyson could work his way inside of Ali. Ali would try to keep him as far back as he could and Tyson would try to get inside of Ali and knock him out. My choice = Ali probably because he can hold him off for 12 rounds but nobody would get knocked out

on pure boxing ability, Ali is the greatest. mentally, Ali is the greatest. Mike was near unstoppable in his prime, but wasn't as good technically - since Tyson's time it's been more focussed on power, rather than style, which Ali had in abundance.

But in 88 Tyson could take a beating and keep coming for 12rounds, Even Ali said in an when asked about Mike he said " Mike in his peak has what some people refer to as an elastic back, Its hard enough to get a punch on hum but its even harder to dodge his punches", He then said " It would be a hard job, but i think I would be able to beat him at my peak". He said this in 1988 in an interview.

yes, and Ali was right. at his peak he could take anyone. Tyson was a tank, but Ali was a fighter.

have i been mis informed i thought marcinio is the only boxer to retire undefeated as a champ, if i'm right then it doesn't matter how good the rest are he is numero uno for that reason alone, if i'm wrong then ali would be my next choice

He is the only one to retire undefeated. In the 50's boxing was alot easier and much less competition then. But in Ali's time there it was much harder and there much better boxers than in Rocky's time, Ie. 6/top10 in history were in Ali's time, And for him to only lose once to a drugged-up Joe Frazier probably makes him better. But why I pick Tyson is not because he never lost but because in his early years he had the best KO-Win ratio. 35/35 games won, 32 by Ko , 28 KO by the fifth round, 17 KO in the first round alone. Thats the best KO ratio in the history of boxing as a whole, And he never lost under the manager Cozdamato and Rooney and as soon as they died he starting losing, And becoming a party-obsessed, Vicious, And unrespectful prune. And that was mainly because Don King F***ed Tyson for all of his money and fed him just a bunch of lies

Not to put him down in anyway, But Rocky's tactics would be horrible against the likes of Ali because he basically just threw punches and never stopped, Ali would be able to dodge them as he did in the (Thrilla in Manilla against Frazier)
He would tire out Rocky. Many people say Rocky wouldnt get tired, But in Rockys time there was no-body thats used tactics like Ali. Ali was the one to introduce the indirect Knockout(Make your opponent tired then go in for the kill). In my opinion Rocky would thrash Ali in the first 9rounds and maybe even knock him down, But Ali would get up and probably knock Rocky out in the 14th or 15th round. I believe Rocky can beat Tyson but I believe Ali can beat them both..realistically. But it wouldnt always come up the same if Ali vs Rocky 100times Ali would win more than 50% but Rocky would atleast get something like 30%. Tyson would probably lost to Ali every-time but maybe get a few wins against Rocky seen as Rocky plays to Tysons advantages, "My defence is impregnable" He really has the best defense of all time and Rocky woudl find it hard to KO tyson.

I understand your point , but I don't think being undefeated neccessarily makes him the best , it depends on the standard of opposition he faced , it is difficult to compare eras but could Marciano have beaten the likes of Sonny Liston , Joe Frazier & George Foreman to name 3 , I don't know , but those are 3 of the greatest heavyweights of all time and they were all around at the same time as Ali , food for thought.

i understand the point made about stats versus style and undoubtly there will never be a more stylish boxer than ali, but ali drew with sir henry cooper on a trumped up technicality and cooper was of a similar era to marciano, so i think it wouldn't be so easy for ali that everyone seems to think.

They wouldnt last against the likes of Liston, Foreman, Frazier, Spinks
Frazier and liston in their primes are definitely top 3 and Foreman wouldnt be too far off

Nah i'd say those blacks(not being racist in anyway) are actually naturally fitter than us, Not to mention they had to fight for respect in those days unlike most of us just migrate in with 'no worries' these guys really had to fight because the only other option was to be a labourer, In those days.
