Very true Ohio. Perhaps if they invested as much money into football, as they do American football, Baseball, or even Basketball, it would have a better survival rate....of course the MLS did put in a hefty investment with the Beckham deal.

Well attendences are on the up as are tv ratings, and with bigger name players coming over, its only going to help.

LOL. Well it didn't help Hockey for too long when they bought Wayne Gretzy. A year, maybe two, and the crowds were back to minimum.

there was the same jump when they bought Péle, Beckenbaur and so on. it failed though, because they put their eggs in one basket.

MLS is too much of a product, and not enough of a sporting spectacle at the moment. it's all too managed, manipulated and pre-packaged. as is typical with the USA, they try and start at the top, rather than building up a good league over a number of years.

thats the problem with america in general it has no soul, no passion unless it can be turned into a cash cow for a few years and that is exactly what beckham is a money spinner not a person but a product for sale to the highest bidder

I think their having more success then they did with the Pele era because they've learnt from their mistakes.

more like there's more money in football and the world in general, i'd rather have been alive to watch pele play in the american league than beckham

The thing that really holds back football here in the states is just the lack of fan support. You will never get the kind of local club support for teams here in the states as you do in Europe. This country lacks a real sense of community that spurs on so much support for European clubs. Americans often pick their teams based on a player they like or some arbitrary way like the mascot or team colors (like was mentioned before, its all about corporations and making money). If someone found a way to get true, hardcore support for clubs over here I think it would make a world of difference.

from what i hear, there's a hardcore Toronto FC group, Red Leaf Boys or something, who are practically Ultras. in one way, that's good for MLS... in another it could be quite bad.

that would really damage footballs rep in the states if that is true, i thght that all the different states in america were quite close knit and didn't really care what happens across the statelines aslong as it doesn't impact them surely thats a community spirit

your right what was i thinking, still think that the only communities they encourage are gated ones and they tend to be insular, which isn't really conducive to spectator sports

lol im from texas, we have people who hate like all other states, Esp new york. *shrug* oh and as for those people who randomly pick teams because of colors and crap, you should see the support for the cowboys now that we have a good qb. people are goin nuts over the green bay victory.

I'm an american... But its still football not soccer, Kill Fillipo Inzaghi!
