Celtic lose Balde and Maloney for a month

Celtic forward Shaun Maloney will be out for up to a month after being given the green light for surgery on a hernia problem by manager Gordon Strachan. The 23-year-old Scotland international barely featured in pre-season due to a groin injury.

Strachan said: "I would think it will be three to four weeks before Shaun plays again. He had struggled through pre-season. It has been bothering him so he is as well to have the operation now." Strachan thought it would be a mere blip in Maloneys career.

And he also confirmed that defender Bobo Balde, who also missed pre-season training, would be back in action in a month. "Bobo Balde should be out for four weeks," he said. "I would have liked to have had him in pre-season, but it was not to be. The physios say it will be four weeks."

We'll miss Maloney. He is a vital player for Celtic these days. However it is better to get these things sorted out so that we can have him back to his best.

Never thought i would say this but I think we are really need Bobo back in the defence. Really unsure about Caldwell, he looks dodgy.

Bobo has the experience that we need for the CL too. Caldwell for me looks as if he could play in position, just in from of the defenders. He doesn't seem like a centre back to me.

Maloney is a loss, but we have cover in these positions now which is good. I thought he looked very tired in games towards the end of last season, may be it was this iunjury that was causing it.

yep. we really need to overhall the defence. I'm from the school of thought that a successful team is built on solid foundations i.e an excellent defence.

The FORCE will always triumph over the dark side!!!

We could never afford him, he will get a bigger wage at Portsmouth, that is how tight the finances in Scotland are at the moment.

Clubs in Scotland are all still trying to recover from when they pushed the boat out a few years ago. Rangers and Celtic are both still in massive debt but are making inroads to become self supporting again, mainly by lowering the enormous wage bills.

Campbell would want far too much in wages for us to be in the running.

Surely he'd take a pay cut for a higher level of football. Maybe not thinking about it

threre could have been insentives for Celtic to go for it. although huis wages would be huge they could have balanced that against the fact they would probobly have to pay £2m for a player that perhaps wasnt even the same quality. However i think the doors on the Celtic finance dept have been welded shut. Cant see us signing anyone. Maybe Dion Dublin... bet you all the Champions leagues sides are s****** it now!

Has Dion not retired. I've heard some pretty ambitious fans mooting names such as Sorin, Gravesen and Ayala. But more relaistic are Leed's Douglas, Bolton's Gaardner, Villa's Samuel, Hib's Thompson, Butt and Villa's Angel.

If/when Petrov leaves then we will need a replacement for him, there is also Scott Brown of Hibs that I rate very highly. His team mate Thompson is also a very good young player but more injury prone.
