Strachan frustrated at lack of funds

Celtic manager Gordon Strachan has voiced his frustration at being unable to compete with Coca-Cola Championship clubs in the transfer market. The Hoops have added Gary Caldwell, Kenny Miller, Jiri Jarosik, Derek Riordan and Evander Sno to the squad but have missed out on Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink and Diego Tristan.

Strachan told The Herald: "We live in a budget world that is not even a (Coca-Cola) Championship world. A lot of the fans know it because they are intelligent people, but there are one or two not intelligent enough to pick it up and they are the ones who cause most bother."

He added: "What the fans would like to see is more guaranteed players. Tottenham have paid £11million for (Dimitar) Berbatov, Manchester United pay £18.5million for (Michael) Carrick. Cameron Jerome costs £3.5million from Cardiff to Birmingham. Thats in the Championship. Where do we go? It gets harder and harder to find something. I knew what it was going to be. Gary McSheffrey is rated at £3.5million at Coventry. Its frustrating but I just have to deal with it. I speak to Gus MacPherson and John Hughes (St Mirren and Falkirk managers respectively). We all think we have budget problems, we just get on with it. I suppose Mr Le Guen (Rangers manager, Paul) will feel the same."

It is a sorry state of affairs in Scotland that we can't even match the Coca Cola leagues for spending power.

I have been a frim believer for many years that youth is the only way for clubs in Scotland to grow. These comments just confirm that for me.

For the forseeable future Celtic will be a 'selling' club, promoting and developing youth.

totally agree. most Old Firm fans seem to have woken up to that fact now. There is no point crying about it as, currently, there is nothing we can do about it. Some fans forget where some of the club's income goes. Running costs are enormous. While we exist within the confines of the SPL it would be prudent to follow the Ajax model, as they too are a big club, in a small league, with limited spending power. Lets concentrate on the youth.

The FORCE will always triumph over the dark side!!!

Im really p***** off with the comments i have read in the paper yesterday. Strachan said that some people accept that Celtic dont have any money money but there 1 or 2 idiots that want Celtic to spend money. You cant say that about your fans. Personally im not p***** off about his signing policy but i am annoyed at his comments. You cant go and call your own fans idiots because they have questions about the clubs lack of spending. Especially when you ask them to buy season books, buy new away tops, buy the clubs DVDs, sit silently when they sell one of the clubs top strikers (the type of player that they need to buy just now), follow the club all other place when they are playing so many friendlies its unreal. We are in the champions leaugue. We are guaranteed money from that and if strachan isnt asking questions to his board like "wheres the f****** money lebowski (Quinn)!!! then he is the idiot. Because it is his job that is on the line and his efforts to keep his job are being hindered by re-installed penny pinching policy.

For a start he can't say I have money to spend. What would happen if he did??? May I remind you the prices Chelsea need to pay to get a player in. If a club knows that Celtic have XXX funds they will automatically increase the asking price of the players. Just simple business.

Stan's deal will have almost be completed, wee Gord will have some players lined up as replacement -- he knows that he can't go through a season with the bare squad that we have.

He's Simply The Best, Better Than All The Rest. La la la la
