vCash: 500 | Celtic won a close encounter as the Fir Park side pushed them all the way in an entertaining game at Celtic Park. Both sides were keen to attack and Celtic took the lead in 16 minutes when Zurawski's goalbound shot was put over his own line by Mark Reynolds. Shaun Maloney had a goal disallowed before half-time. Zurawski made it two on 66 minutes after the Pole latched on to a clever pass from Nakamura. Motherwell set up a tense finish when Scott McDonald scored on 77 minutes. Celtic full-backs Lee Naylor and Paul Telfer recovered from knocks as Hoops boss Gordon Strachan named the same side which swept aside Benfica in the Champions League. In the early exchanges the visitors could not take advantage of some enterprising build-up play. Celtic took the lead in 16 minutes after Shunsuke Nakamura slipped Maciej Zurawski past a square Well defence. The Pole took the ball around Colin Meldrum just outside the box and side-footed it towards goal. Stephen Craigan and Reynolds got in the way of each other as they tried to clear and the Northern Irishman helped the ball into the net. Scott McDonald ran at the Celts defence moments later and fired a shot across the face of goal. And the unmarked Steven McGarry missed a great chance to level when he headed a Richie Foran cross into the ground and over from 10 yards. McDonald had a chance to run at Celtic eight minutes into the second half when Well got him on a one-on-one with Stephen McManus on the left wing. The Australian forced the defender to retreat but shot a couple of yards over from just outside the box. McGeady replaced Maloney on the hour mark but his first chance to run at Well could not free the champions from a good spell of pressure by the visitors. However, Celtic got their second in 66 minutes when Nakamura again sent Zurawski racing past the Well defence and the Pole slipped the ball home from 10 yards. Scott McDonald, the scourge of Celtic defence's of the past, set up a tense finish when he scored in 77 minutes. The visitors then attacked the home goal but could not find an equaliser. Pearson could have extended Celtic's lead, but shot wide after Nakamura's clever play. The home fans faced a tense wait for the final whistle after the referee added on about five minutes of injury-time. so yes he did |
