Celtic Accept Bid for Hartson

Celtic striker John Hartson say he is “shocked and disappointed” after learning the SPL champions had accepted a bid for him from West Brom.

The 31-year-old had recently stated he was happy to see out the remaining one year of contract and had no desire to leave Glasgow.

However, Celtic see the Welshman’s future away from Celtic Park.

“ I had no intention or desire to leave the club this summer and I would like the fans to know that,” said Hartson.

He added: “ I’ve retired from international football to give myself more time to see my kids and I was totally focused on going back to Celtic and trying to help the club reclaim the title and make a real push in the Champions League.

“ I love the club so much, in fact, that I’d spoken to friends recently about staying for another year and ending my career in Glasgow. But now this. It has knocked me for six.”

While Hartson’s agent confirmed Celtic had accepted West Brom’s bid, he pointed out that it did not necessarily mean the striker would be leaving the Parkhead club.

Shocker for me. Ok he's getting on and was never quick but £500,000 to West Brom. I reckon he could do a job a several premiership clubs, good target man for the Baggies if they get him.

Do Celtic want him off the wage bill?

Shocked by this to be honest. He is a better player than £500,000 - that is just insulting.

What is Strachan all about,

He won't pay a token fee for Riordan
He buys the donkey Virgo for £1.5M - if he actually watched him play before he bought him he needs to be sacked on the spot
He signs Zurawski for over £2M and I still don't think he can cut it

IMO you must question his signings. Now he has sold our best goalscorer for £500,000 come on Gordon - you better have something GOOD lined up.

Just Riordan and Kenny Miller.

He needs someone that can head the ball and give defenders as good as they get.

Celtic are begining to look lightweight for next season.....and not just cos big fat john may leave.

Get shot of him, honestly I could outrun him and I live on a diet of Mars bars and Irn Bru.

He gets £28K per week for doing hardly anything in a game, he has never fitted in with Strachan's style of play. In Europe he is a liability because he is so slow.

Thanks for the service John, but it is time to go.

I looked into his move a bit more and it seems as though he has been trying to play the fans.

His agent was instructed by BBJ to look for clubs 3 months ago for him.

Looks like BBJ has been telling some porky pies.

Sour grapes from Hartson then!

He done well for Celtic and Celtic have done well for him. He should be grateful and so should then fans. It looks to be going a bit sour now. Shame that.

Just read Portsmouth are in for him as well. I think he'll end up in the Premiership. Too good for the Championship.
