Italian coach Giovanni De Biasi will take charge of Primera Liga basement side Levante until the end of the season if he can reach an agreement to release himself from his contract with Torino.

Levante said on their Web site (udlevante.com) that they expected De Biasi, who coached Torino last season, to confirm his departure from the Serie A club "in the next few hours" and that he would be presented to the media at 1200 GMT.

De Biasi replaces Abel Resino who was sacked after the side's 3-0 defeat away to Real Zaragoza on Sunday, leaving the side anchored at the bottom of the Primera Liga with just one point from seven games.

Former midfielder De Biasi has earned himself a reputation for getting the best out of modest teams.

He steered Modena from the Serie C1 to the Serie A for the first time in 38 years, kept Brescia in the top flight for two seasons and led Torino to promotion.

He returned to Torino last season taking charge of the team after a poor run of results and managed to keep them in the Serie A.

De Biasi has Italian players Damiano Tommasi, Bruno Cirillo, Marco Storari and Christian Rigano in the squad at Levante.
