Real secure 30th Liga title

Real Madrid captured their 30th Liga crown with a 3-1 home victory over Real Mallorca , which meant Barcelona's 5-1 thrashing of bottom club Gimnastic was in vain , Seviila capped off a disappointing end to the season going down 1-0 at home to Villarreal

It's a remarkable win for Real who were said to be in crisis for most of the season , but it was a strange season in Spain with all the top clubs struggling for consistancy.

How it finished

1st Real Madrid 76 pts, 2nd Barcelona 76, 3rd Sevilla 71

Interrestingly , Real won the title because of their head to head record v Barca this season despite Barca having a vastly superior goal difference .

At the bottom of the table Celta Vigo & Real Sociadad were relegated along with Gimnastic

Athletic Bilbao & Real Betis both survived with last day wins the later with an unlikely 2-0 victory away to Racing Santander

How it finished

16th Real Betis 40 pts, 17th Athletic Bilbao 40, 18th Celta Vigo 39, 19th Real Sociadad 35, 2Oth Gimnastic 28.

I don't know , but I heard it's 40 years since Sociadad were relegated.

Edit , I just checked Celta were relegated in 2004 , they were promoted back to Liga 1 the following season.

Not that unbelievable really , most leagues are dominated by a handful of teams , Benfica have won 33 titles in Portugal & Rangers more than 50 in Scotland.

Sadly the Premier league is going the same way.
