Former Real Sociedad boss Miguel Angel Lotina has agreed to take charge of Deportivo Coruna next season, the Primera Liga side said on Monday.

Lotina, who steered Deportivo's local rivals Celta Vigo into the Champions League in 2003, stepped down as Sociedad coach last week after the Basque side were relegated from the top flight for the first time in 40 years. He had only been at Sociedad since October.

"I'm very happy and really looking forward to working for Deportivo," said the 49-year-old on his arrival at La Coruna airport on Monday.

Deportivo finished 13th in the Primera Liga in the season just ended, their lowest placing since returning to the top flight in 1991.

Lotina made his name by leading Numancia and Osasuna to promotion to the Primera Liga in the late 1990s and after his stint at Celta he took charge at Espanyol, winning the King's Cup with them in 2006.

He replaces Joaquin Caparros who quit as Depor coach last week after two seasons at the helm, saying he had been worn down by the job.

Caparros, who managed Sevilla before moving to Deportivo, has been linked with the vacant post at Athletic Bilbao.
