Petrov to make Villa debut

Stilian Petrov is poised to make his Aston Villa debut against West Ham in Sunday’s Premiership clash at Upton Park. The Bulgaria captain, signed from Celtic for an initial £6.5m (€9.6m) 10 days ago, only joined up with his team-mates on Friday after international commitments.

With skipper Gareth Barry in sparkling form, either Gavin McCann or Steven Davis look likely to make way for the 27-year-old, who has signed a four-year contract. Striker Milan Baros is set to be among the substitutes after finally recovering from a summer-long foot injury as Villa look to maintain their unbeaten start to the campaign.

Team (from): Sorensen, Hughes, Mellberg, Ridgewell, Bouma, Whittingham, Samuel, Davis, McCann, Petrov, Barry, Hendrie, Moore, Agbonlahor, Angel, Baros, Taylor, Delaney, Laursen, Djemba-Djemba.

He certainly showed some of what he can do, a great debut for Stan. You can see that he is constantly thinking throughout the game and was unlucky not to score.

Petrov looked although he'd been playing for Villa for ages. I think he is streets ahead of anything else Villa have in that Midfield, and I'm not basing that on this one performance.

I think MON still has to get a few players in though. I think you will see players like Petrov, Melberg,Barry, Moore and Baros will become central figures in that team. But i think they need another midfielder, some more strength at the back and they definatly need a new keeper.

Petrov did fit in very well and was unlucky not to score but a decent bit of defending got in the way - i wouldnt say he's streets ahead - the thing is with Villa is we have to many players that do a different job all over the park - Gavin McCann is very similar to Petrov so its gonna be hard to play them together i feel - Steven Davies is on the save line in many ways as well but he likes to get forward alot - Gareth Barry is a player that also likes to get forward on the wing so in all fairness we have a very attackin squad - we also have two youngsters called Craig Gardner and Sam Williams who are more than capible of doing a job in the center - id agree to a defender as i still feel Laursen will get crocked again but Gary Cahill can do a solid job there if so - have alot of player who are versitile thats always a bonus - i wouldnt agree on the keeper front i think Tommy Sorrenson is a decent performer on his day and alot of people dont see his true colours - i also think there is decent backup in Stuart Taylor - and also we have some decent youth keepers thanks to our cracking youth system
