Spurs To Bid For Wembley?

Spurs would be plunged into huge debt as a result but the plan would involve leasing it back to the FA for England games and FA Cup semi-finals and final.

Although this potential move is considered a long shot, it underlines their desire to leave White Hart Lane for a larger stadium while it's believed their number one option remains the Olympic Stadium after the 2012 event.

Tottenham, who could face a challenge from West Ham, are said to be well ahead in the lobbying game and have already approached Keith Mills, the former deputy chairman of the London 2012 bid, about taking up a non-executive role on the board.
Can someone tell me why a national stadium like Wembley need to be owned by clubs?? The FA financial difficulties can't solve through governments' help?

Their are always stories like this floatong around. Their was a rumour a couple of years ago that this would happen. their was also a rumour we'd inherit one of the olympic stadiums. But I think we will be at WHL for the forseeable future

£1 Billion for a football stadium?? Anyone know who is actually funding this?

I would not have any problem with clubs sharing stadiums to save money. It happens all over the world. However, I firmly believe that there should be one neutral stadium for the international games and domestic cup finals. I have never taken to England playing at Old Trafford or Anfield, it just doesn't feel right - almost as if they are homeless!

Also, if Spurs want to buy it, what price would it be?

the irony is, White Hart lane looks a great, compact stadium with the crowd right ontop of the pitch. Why move to a new Wembley and risk not filling it, which would result in a crap atmosphere?
