vCash: 500 | Wenger "We need a trophy this year" Arsene Wenger will not be happy with another season of development for Arsenal which ends without a trophy. The Gunners boss believes his current crop of players have the potential to become the greatest side he has managed during a decade at the north London club. A blend of youth and experience helped Arsenal claw back fourth place in the Barclays Premiership last season - a campaign which would end 10 days later in the bitter disappointment of defeat in the Champions League final. An FA Cup triumph on penalties over Manchester United at the Millennium Stadium in May 2005 remains the last time Wenger's men got their hands on some silverware. It is a barren spell the Frenchman intends to bring to an end as soon as possible. Following three straight Premiership wins ahead of the international break, Arsenal are now five points behind leaders Manchester United and Chelsea - with a game in hand on both. The Gunners boss said: "I do not think you can be happy without winning trophies - somewhere it would raise doubts about your ability to win things. "Now I am ready to win another one [championship] because the last two years have been very difficult." During Wenger's tenure, Arsenal have become one of the top sides in Europe, and in 2004 went unbeaten throughout the whole campaign as they claimed the Premiership title. Despite all of the achievements over those 10 years - which have also included the double twice - the French coach remains as driven as he has ever been. Wenger, 56, said: "I always feel you can do better in life and I regret every wrong decision I have made, and every time we have lost. "Overall we have had a consistent level of performance and we are proud of what we have done. "But I believe as well the duty of a manager is to always to think you could have done better and how can you do better in the future." While Wenger's appointment has proved an unqualified success, there were more than a few eyebrows raised when the Gunners announced their choice of manager to succeed Bruce Rioch in September 1996. 'Arsene Who?' was the infamous newspaper headline, while rival coaches and players alike wondered just what this man knew about the English game. From the moment they met, however, Arsenal vice-chairman David Dein was convinced Wenger had all the qualities to take the club into the new Millennium. "It was on January 1 1988 and I had the chance to watch a game here because nobody else played in Europe. That is when I met David Dein and we kept in touch for years," recalled Wenger, who was soon invited back to the family home for a game of charades to help break the ice. "I have been grateful for him giving me a chance to join this club, and to have convinced his partners on the board I would be good enough to do the job here." Wenger reflected in a webchat on www.arsenal.com: "From the first day I was a bit in trouble because I was attacked a bit maliciously - and from that first day on I felt the fans stood firm behind me and the board stood firm behind me. "I have felt that during the whole of my time and I am very proud to have achieved 10 years." |

vCash: 480 | I'm not sure. If you think about everton last year they were 17th at Christmas and then were really pushing for a CL place. I don;t think we'll ever be that low at hristmas and I think we have a better team than Everton did last year. it will be a big ask thogh |
