Berbatov now back on track

Quote:
Tottenham striker Dimitar Berbatov insists his heroics against Besiktas indicate his recent injury problems are history.

Berbatov was sidelined for most of September after sustaining an abductor strain on international duty for Bulgaria.

The 25-year-old felt he was still feeling the effects of the injury until his inspirational display against Besiktas in the UEFA Cup on Thursday night.

He set up the first goal for Hossam Ghaly and then produced a breathtaking solo score which sealed Spurs' 2-0 victory in Istanbul.

Besiktas struggled to contain the £10.9million summer signing from Bayer Leverkusen throughout, and now Berbatov is ready to fire the goals to spark Spurs' climb up the Barclays Premiership - starting at home to West Ham tomorrow.

He said: "It's important that we won, and we now have a great chance to go further in the UEFA Cup.

"We fought like a team and played with concentration for the whole 90 minutes. But scoring the goal wasn't important for me.

"If I can score every game it will be wonderful but only because I want to help the team with my goals.

"I'm fully recovered from injury, so things will get better and better for me. I hope I will continue scoring goals for Tottenham."

Spurs will give a late fitness test to Ledley King before tomorrow's match at White Hart Lane.

Boss Martin Jol was reluctant to play King, who had just recovered from a knee injury, against Besiktas but decided it was crucial to field his strongest side.

He may opt not to risk King against the Hammers, but Spurs' captain is desperate to play.

A broken metatarsal forced him to miss the 2-1 defeat at Upton Park on the final day of last season - a result which helped destroy Spurs' hopes of qualifying for the Champions League.

He said: "We're hoping we've hit our stride this season. Since the start, we've been looking for that one game that kicks us on. I hope it's this one.

"We want to produce another convincing performance, like the one against Besiktas, and we will be playing West Ham full of confidence because of our win in Turkey.

"West Ham haven't made the best of starts to the season, so we'll be looking to get on top of them.

"We still remember what happened last season on the final day and we need to put that right in our heads."
When he came into the squad last season, I thought that Tottenham signed a black sheep since he is not producing the goals for Tottenham.

He said he can score against West Ham but we'll see.

Even though he is in my dream team on here, the fact that he plays for Spuds makes me wishes he doesnt.

Berbatov is a class player who has done well in the CL. And spurs have him at the right age. He's been injured early on in the season and perhaps is still getting back to being fully fit. He'll score about 15 goals this year, maybe 20.

He's starting to show spurts of why we payed so much money for him. I know I'm gonna get slated for saying this but he reminds me a bit of Henry. Obviously not as good but his style of play is very similar

I hope he really shows everyone how good he is and show his true potential because he deserves that and he is starting to show that and showing that the money that spurs bought him for is paying off as GH has says
