Freddy Adu and Man U...your thoughts?

I think it's great that a US player is getting some exposure from a big name club in the Premiership. There have been US players in the Premiership in years past with modest success but the US media that covers soccer/football in the US have hyped it up a bit here.

But it sounds like Ferguson isn't too keen on Adu and it's possible that the Glazers spearhead the effort for Adu to have a two week workout with Man U. Is this the Glazers attempt to bring a US player to Man U in order to help increase Man U's popularity in the US?

I think so...

i stand by what i said in this thread

the EPL isn't right for a player in the position he's in right now.

i'm inclined to agree more with this

He's got a load of pressure if he comes to the squad when he's too young and it could backfire and make it hard for him, he may not like it or may do. It depends of his hunger to come.

he's talking about the links in my last post Theo.

anyroad, the first thread is in the Transfer Rumours forum, still near the top, you'll see it.

the second one links to a Sky News article, from which i shall quote
Quote:
DC United coach Peter Nowak, who has helped nurture Adu's talent, believes a move to Holland would help his progress more than moving to England.

"He's a young kid and he needs matches," Nowak told The Guardian.

"I think he should go to PSV (Eindhoven) or Ajax or somewhere where they have a tradition of raising young players.

"At a place like Ajax the young kids come through together and they grow up together; the team is shaped around them. In the biggest environment at the club with the biggest budget it will be hard for them to wait for him to develop.

"I still feel he needs the minutes and the experience."

DC United's technical director Dave Kasper echoed the sentiments of Nowak suggesting Adu may struggle to adapt to the rigours of English football.

"Just look at how Tevez has struggled," Kasper added in the Guardian. "Does Freddy want to have to go to Watford on a rainy Wednesday where he'll have 6ft 4in goons on his back all night?

"The Dutch league is a very technical league and he will be better suited for that at his age."

...well, his club career started at DC United two years ago, so it's not really too big of an issue.

no, because Fergie's knows enough about football by now not to make such a daft decision. it's wrong for the player, and thus it's wrong for the club paying his wages.

to be honest, i wonder if the whole thing was partly Malcolm Glazer's idea.

wouldn't doubt it. They own the Tampa Bay Buccaneers of the NFL and my wife is a big fan of theres and she married an Oakland Raiders fan...so my dislike for the Glazers extends to their overseas clubs.

I probably think it was Glazers idea.
